As summer break begins to wind down, a new school year is just around the corner. Children in our care, like children everywhere, are thinking about new clothes, school supplies, and what the year ahead will bring. For Casey, those thoughts are accompanied by another challenge—learning to persevere through the traumatic experiences that brought her into our care.

Casey was removed from her home after experiencing abuse and recently came to Residing Hope. Because of the trauma she endured, she is withdrawn and academically behind her peers. With the help of her therapist, Casey is learning healthy coping skills and preparing for her first year of high school. While she is understandably nervous, she feels encouraged knowing she will be able to attend school right here on our campus through the return of Legacy Scholars Academy. That alone is providing her with a level of comfort and reassurance.

And it’s not only the youth living on our Enterprise campus who need assistance. Children at our Madison Youth Ranch, as well as the foster children we serve, also need supplies and resources for the coming school year.

Many of the children who come to Residing Hope have experienced abuse, neglect, or abandonment and often enter our care two to three years behind academically. Through the guidance of our teaching parents, therapists, educators, and dedicated staff, these children make remarkable progress toward their academic goals.
