The infant environment in our Alexander House is a peaceful, home like space designed to foster a sense of security and trust. Unlike traditional nurseries, Alexander House is built around the infant’s need for unrestricted movement and sensory exploration. Our infant program supports natural development in a carefully prepared environment with nurturing, attentive teachers. We know that infants develop trust in an environment where people respond attentively to the infant’s needs for love and acceptance. They also need an environment that promotes the need to learn.

We provide individualized learning activities, appropriate for even the earliest stages of a child’s development. Our children flourish in carefully prepared, familiar environments that respect, support and respond to their basic needs for independence, exploration and movement. Materials are displayed on low, open shelves and on floor mats, all within easy reach of even the youngest child. A flexible sequence of activities and routines, not a rigid schedule, helps the infant feel very much at home.

During these early formative years, we never lose sight of the infant’s need for individual care and attention. We know that through holding, as well as feeding and communicating, children acquire a strong and positive sense of self. While children are encouraged to be active and inquisitive learners, sensitive adults are always near to direct their exploration, to assist, or to gently comfort.

The infant class is a rich environment of language development. The vocabulary of objects, activities, and feelings encompass every aspect of our program. We also seek to maintain a constant dialogue and close relationship with the child’s family. The staff works closely with parents so they know their child’s routine, personality and unique comfort level.

Infants bring special joy and need extra special care. As they go about their very important work of physical, emotional and cognitive development in an atmosphere that communicates unconditional love and acceptance, our quality care permits family to feel secure as they attend to work as well.

Toddlers have a fierce, natural urge to do things on their own. Residing Hope Montessori’s Toddler Community provides a safe, structured bridge between the home and the larger world, focusing on language development and physical coordination. Teachers assist the child as they fulfill the basic human tasks of trust, separation, independence, and self-control. The focus is less on curriculum and materials and more on helping the toddler respond to the rapid and conflicting changes of this developmental age.

The carefully planned and meticulously prepared classroom environment beckons the toddler’s strongest desires to make order out of chaos, to move with intention and coordination, and to communicate with others.

In a Montessori Toddler environment, the child develops feelings of support, security, and self-esteem. Children are guided toward appropriate behaviors through a nonjudgmental atmosphere and a consistency that helps the child understand the balance between freedom and limits. Like the infant, toddlers still need to know that they are safe, both physically and emotionally, and that they are unconditionally loved. The comfort and reassurance of caring adults are never far away.

Most toddlers adjust well to the Montessori environment. Nature assists by offering them an insatiable curiosity to explore and a boundless enthusiasm for activity. Toddlers literally propel themselves through their busy day! Children engage in hands-on activity, music and song, group time, and participate both in the daily care of their class and in their own personal care. Patience, self-control, and delay of gratification emerge as children participate in community life.

Toddlers learn to use language skills, both verbal and non-verbal, to solve conflicts in social situations. They quickly grow in their ability to carry on extended conversations and request help. Gestures and physical communication remain as valid forms of communicating, but they become less impulsive as the child’s phrases and simple sentences are understood. Words begin to affect the child’s behavior, yet because the children of this age are capable of deceptively mature skills and sophisticated behavior, we are wary to attribute an understanding to the toddler that they do not yet possess.

One of several challenges unique to toddlers is toilet learning. Adults become aware of a child’s readiness to entertain this challenge when the child exhibits certain characteristics – but the child must make the decision on their own. As they do, teachers help ease this new routine naturally into the child’s personal care. Children experience independence, self-control, motivation, and confidence in their own success.

Our Primary program nurtures the natural curiosity, wonder, and joy of young children who are in a period known as the absorbent mind. In a carefully prepared Montessori environment and under the guidance of trained Montessori guides, children develop concentration, coordination, order, and independence. The Montessori method leads them to a love of discovery while building foundational academic, social, and emotional skills, which leads to a lifelong love of learning.

• Language – In the Primary classroom, children learn language through a hands-on, phonetic approach. They begin by exploring letter sounds and forms, then tracing and writing letters before connecting them to reading. Through songs, stories, and purposeful writing activities, children build a strong foundation in phonics, early literacy, and confident communication. The Montessori classroom is rich in vocabulary that is expanded across the curriculums. These vocabulary, storytelling, and grammar exercises support confident communication and self-expression.
• Mathematics – Mathematics begins with concrete, hands-on materials that help children understand numbers, counting, patterns, and basic operations. Through exploration and play, children build strong number sense, problem-solving skills, and a foundation for future mathematical learning.
• Science and Cultural Studies – Curiosity is at the heart of science and cultural studies in the Primary program. Children explore plants, animals, the natural world, geography, and cultural traditions through observation, experimentation, and hands-on experiences that foster wonder and respect for the world around them.
• Practical Life, Grace and Courtesy – Practical life activities help children develop independence, coordination, focus, and care for themselves as well as their environment. Through tasks like pouring, dressing, cleaning, and food preparation, children learn responsibility, attention to detail, and self-confidence. Grace and courtesy lessons support social skills, empathy, and collaboration, helping children navigate relationships with care and respect.
• Creative Arts and Movement – Children explore music through Montessori bells, singing, and rhythm activities, helping them develop listening skills and musical expression. Then, they put it into practice in a joyful Christmas performance each December. Art is explored daily in the classroom, encouraging creativity, self-expression, and fine motor development. Students also enjoy a weekly PE (physical education) class where they develop coordination, teamwork, and collaboration through fun and engaging physical games.

Our Lower Elementary program builds on the child’s natural curiosity and growing capacity for reasoning, imagination, and social connection. Guided by Montessori principles, students work within a carefully prepared environment that supports independence, collaboration, and a deep love of learning across all subject areas.

• Reading, Writing, and Grammar – Literacy instruction is grounded in rich language experiences. Children develop strong reading skills through phonics, word study, comprehension work, and exposure to high-quality literature. Writing emerges naturally from reading and personal expression, moving from sentences to well structured paragraphs and stories. Grammar is taught concretely using Montessori materials that allow students to explore parts of speech, sentence structure, and language patterns in a hands-on, meaningful way.
• Mathematics – Math concepts are introduced concretely and progress toward abstraction. Students work with hands-on materials to master operations, place value, fractions, geometry, and problem solving. This approach builds true mathematical understanding, confidence, and flexibility in thinking rather than rote memorization.
• Science and History – Science and history are taught through an integrated, inquiry-based approach that taps into the child’s imagination and sense of wonder. Students explore biology, earth science, physical science, and ecology through observation, experimentation, and research. History begins with the Montessori Great Lessons, providing a broad context for the study of timeliness, cultures, geography, and the interconnectedness of the world.
• Practical Life – Practical Life continues in Lower Elementary through activities that foster responsibility, organization, leadership, and care for the environment. Students learn to manage their work, contribute to the classroom community, maintain the classroom environment, care for the garden, and develop real-world skills that support independence and confidence.
• Enrichment Areas – The Lower Elementary learning experience is further enhanced in these areas:
  1. Spanish – Students are introduced to vocabulary and conversational language through engaging and developmentally appropriate lessons.
  2. Music – Children explore rhythm, pitch, melody, and musical patters using Montessori bells and have the opportunity to showcase their talents in a Christmas show every December.
  3. Art – Art instruction encourages creativity, self-expression, and skill development using a variety of media.
  4. Physical Education – PE supports physical development, coordination, teamwork, and healthy habits.
  5. Drama – Drama activities build confidence, communication skills, creativity, and collaborative problem-solving. Students put on a short drama production each Spring in which parents are invited to attend.
• Social and Emotional Learning – Social and emotional growth is intentionally supported through Social Bridges (https://www.socialbridges.com/), a program designed to help students develop empathy, self-awareness, emotional regulation, and positive peer relationships. Grace and courtesy lessons, collaborative work, and guided reflection help children navigate social dynamics and build strong character alongside academic growth.

Together, these elements create a balanced, engaging Lower Elementary experience that nurtures the whole child academically, socially, emotionally, and creatively.

Our Upper Elementary program empowers students to think deeply, collaborate meaningfully, and take increasing ownership of their learning. At this stage, children are developing strong reasoning skills, a growing sense of justice, and a desire to understand how they fit into the larger world. Rooted in Montessori principles, our program offers academic rigor, purposeful work, and opportunities for leadership within a supportive, respectful community.

• Language – Work in language becomes increasingly sophisticated as students engage with novels, nonfiction texts, research, and discussion. Reading instruction emphasizes comprehension, analysis, and critical thinking. Writing expands to include essays, reports, creative writing, and presentations, with an emphasis on clarity, organization, and voice. Public speaking is a very important part of the language curriculum. Grammar study deepens through hands-on materials that help students master complex sentence structures and refine their written expression.
• Mathematics – Upper Elementary students continue progressing from concrete to abstract mathematical thinking. Learners explore advanced operations, fractions, decimals, percentages, geometry, and introductory algebraic concepts. Problem solving, reasoning, and real-world application are central, helping students build confidence and persistence as mathematicians.
• Science and History – Science and history invite students to ask big questions and conduct meaningful research. Building on the Montessori Great Lessons, students explore physical science, biology, earth science, and ecology through experimentation and inquiry. History studies deepen through timelines, geography, cultural studies, and research projects that foster global awareness and an understanding of humanity’s shared story.
• Practical Life and Leadership – Practical Life in Upper Elementary emphasizes responsibility, leadership, and independence. Students take on meaningful roles within the classroom and school community, learning time management, collaboration, and problem-solving skills that prepare them for adolescence and beyond.
• Enrichment and Creative Expression – The Upper Elementary learning experience is further enhanced in these areas:
  1. Foreign Language – Students continue to build their conversational skills and cultural awareness.
  2. Music – Musical knowledge continues to expand with hands-on exploration of pitch, tone, and melody using the xylophone, ukulele, and keyboard. Singing is an important part of the curriculum and students get an opportunity to perform for family members at the Christmas show in December.
  3. Art – Studies in art encourage creative expression, technique, and personal style through a variety of media.
  4. Physical Education – PE promotes strength, coordination, teamwork, and lifelong wellness.
  5. Drama – Drama activities build confidence, communication, and collaboration, culminating in a spring musical production that allows students to experience performance, teamwork, and creative expression on a larger stage. Students performances have included The Lion King, Maria Montessori the Musical, and Annie.
• Technology and Digital Literacy – Technology is thoughtfully integrated to support creativity, communication, and responsible digital citizenship. Students develop practical and future-focused skills through:

Our Upper Elementary program challenges students academically while nurturing creativity, leadership, and compassion. This prepares them to step forward as confident, capable learners ready to engage thoughtfully as good global citizens of the world.

Our middle school program guides students through a pivotal stage of growth, combining academic challenge with increasing independence, responsibility, and self-direction. Students develop critical thinking, leadership skills, and a sense of purpose while continuing to explore their passions and discover their strengths. Grounded in Montessori principles, the program balances rigorous academics, real-world experience, and social-emotional development to prepare students for high school and beyond.

• Personalized Academic Studies – Middle school learning is tailored to the level of each child, allowing student to progress at a pace that challenges and engages them. Mathematics studies include algebra, geometry, and advanced problem solving. Language arts focuses on reading, writing, research, and analysis across a range of literature and nonfiction. Students explore science (biology, chemistry, physical science), history (ancient, world, and U.S. history), world geography and civics, making connections between the past, the present, and their role as active, informed citizens.
• Technology and Digital Literacy – Students continue to develop digital literacy and technical skills, preparing them for academic and professional success. Technology integration includes:

  4. Physical Education – PE promotes health, coordination, and teamwork.
  5. Drama – Drama activities build confidence, communication, and collaboration, culminating in a spring musical production that allows students to experience performance, teamwork, and creative expression on a larger stage. • High School Preparation – A key focus of middle schools is preparing students for high school. Academic skills, critical thinking, independent work habits, and responsibility are developed intentionally. This ensures that students are ready for a smooth transition to the next stage of their education while maintaining the curiosity, creativity, and confidence that define their Montessori experience. Time is spent with families to make sure they transition into an environment that best suits each student.

Our middle school program cultivates capable, independent learners who are ready to take on advanced studies, embrace leadership opportunities, and engage meaningfully with the world around them.

Our infant swim program follows the Infant Swimming Resource program, offering one-on-one lessons that are customized to the developmental level of each child.

• Babies who can crawl (generally 6-12 months), learn to hold their breath underwater, roll onto their back to float, rest, and breath.
• Children who can walk (generally 1-6 years of age), learn to hold their breath underwater, swim with their head down and eyes open, roll onto their back to float, rest and breathe, and roll back over to resume swimming until they reach the side of the pool and can crawl out.

We offer swimming instruction from May to October for children ages 6 months through 12 years. A bathing suit (one-piece for girls) and three towels are required, and required to be taken home and washed daily. Clearly label your child’s belongings and place them in a sturdy waterproof bag or backpack.

Our pool is fenced with a secure-access gate, is equipped with all lifesaving equipment, and is inspected regularly by the Florida Department of Health.

Residing Hope Montessori provides quality care for children kindergarten through twelve years of age after school and for summer break. After-school transportation is available form all local schools. Professional staff familiar with the needs of older children plan a stimulating theme-based program balancing active and quiet activities. Children have time to complete homework assignments and have access to computers. Staff work with the children to help them complete assignments.

Summer camp provides indoor and outdoor areas including a gymnasium and outdoor classroom. The program allows for active movement such as aerobics, dance, games, and a structured swim program allowing you child to progress through skill levels of swimming and safety. Periodic field trips and special events help to make every day a fun filled experience.
